Reservoir Water Levels - September 2025
It's been almost a year since we asked whether Cyprus was running out of water. Since then it has been a mix ot a lot of talk and some action. What is still missing though, is rain in any quantity. So let's take a look at just how low the reservoirs are at the moment.
Evretou Reservoir
We recently did an article on the Mavrokolympos Reservoir. It has been emptied in order to repair it. The internet being what it is, some people saw the pictures and didn't read the article, so they thought that all the reservoirs were just about empty. The good news, for the moment at least, is that they aren't in fact that low. The Evretou Reservoir is 14.4% full.
Dam View
Even so, that is nothing to really celebrate. This is a picture of the dam itself. You may be wondering where the overflow is, as you can't see it here.
Right View
You could be forgiven for thinking that it was up that way somewhere, but you would be mistaken. Look carefully at the picture though. There is an interesting structure in its centre.
Rest In Peace
The structure is a memorial, built for a local fisherman. When the reservoir is full, the water laps just below the rocks in this picture. So look back at the previous picture and you will get a guide as to how low the water level is at the moment.
So where is the Overflow? To view that we have to travel further up the reservoir.
