Postcard From Ayia Napa
The Local Beach

This was the beach we liked that was near to our apartment. Beyond the ridge is a dog-friendly beach which puts the Paphos dog beaches to shame. It really does. I will cover that in another blog though. The sea here was wonderful, and it was great for snorkelling. Bizarrely, out beyond the reef, we saw several stone circles, and a stone square. We don't mean circles like Stone Henge. More, they were little walls, made in a circle, with a pile of rocks in the centre. We can only presume that a local scuba diving club once had a competition there.
Gone Fishing

The fishermen indicate that there will be plenty of interesting creatures to see if you do decide to go for a snorkel. And look how clean the beach is! They all seemed like this, and there were plenty of bins around too. The only dirty spot we found was next to the Green Bay. There is a region there between the beaches which was quite unpleasant. Fortunately it seemed to be in the minority though.
The Ghost City

The beach we just showed you was very close to the UN Exclusion Zone. You can drive up to it at various points, but you should be wary of taking photos. This also goes for the military bases you may find in the area. There is one on Cape Greco too. We went to the Cultural Centre at Derynia to take these shots. According to Google Maps, it is actually in the exclusion zone, but we can assure you that it isn't, and is well worth a visit.
Frozen In Time

The heat haze gives you a clue as to how hot it was on this day. You are allowed on the roof of the centre, and they even provide free binoculars. The view is of course, of the abandoned city of Famagusta.
Sober Art

One of the pictures in the cultural centre was especially poignant. There are a number on display, and it is worth spending the time to take a look.
