Mavrokolympos Reservoir Reopens
It was announced recently that they had finished repairing the Mavrokolympos Reservoir and that it was now open again. As we've given you regular reports on its progress it seems only right that we should show you the finished product.
Flood!

Look! The lake is filling up again! The reports weren't wrong. Water is once again returning to the Mavrokolympos Reservoir.
Men At Work

It looked like the state of the reservoir was being carefully monitored. When we popped down to film there were a number of official-looking people gathered on the far side of the dam discussing something or other.

The only shame was that they didn't use the downtime to clear away some of the mud that has accumulated on the bed of the reservoir. I did read in a report though that they have performed a similar exercise on a different reservoir, so hopefully the word will spread. With an increase in maintenance the Cyprus Reservoir Network would be a lot more robust and have a greater capacity.
From The Front

Here's a view from the other side of the dam. It's obviously still got a long way to go, but this is a start.
To The Source

You might think that there is no incoming water at the moment, owing to the lack of rain. But you would be wrong. Upstream of here is Adonis Baths. There is a common story that Adonis Baths is entirely fed from a tap. If you think about it though, this does not make any sense. The Mavrokolympos Stream starts in the hills of Stroumbi, Polemi and Koili. It runs down to the reservoir, and through the aforementioned baths. So the baths have a natural water source. If they didn't it would mean that the Mavrokolympos Reservoir itself was fed from a tap.
