Greek Mythology At Paphos Mall
The One-Eyed Beast
Now this chap must be recognisable to everybody. At least, anybody who remembers the work of Ray Harryhausen in the old Sinbad films. The Cyclops is a formidable creature.
Give That Man Some Pasties
Cyclops, (Greek: "round Eye") was one of several one-eyed giants. Homer described them as cannibals, living a rude pastoral life in a distant land (most likely Sicily). Other sources refer to them as skilled craftsmen of great size and strength. Odyssey contains a well-known episode in which Odysseus escapes death by blinding the Cyclops Polyphemus. Cyclopes were also said to have been the builders of the Cyclopean walls of Mycenae and Tiryns.
Special Tree
Now this is a bit of a puzzle. There is a tree here with golden apples. In Greek Mythology the Garden of the Hesperides had trees like this, but they were guarded by a dragon. There is a creature behind the tree, but it doesn't breath fire.
Meet The Centaur
Centaurs, were creatures, part horse and part man, dwelling in the mountains. They had wild, lawless character, animal passions, drunken and amorous habits. Yet, one of them, Chiron, was believed to be the "wisest of all", the superlative centaur. His foster father Apollo, had taught him several arts, and helped him rise above his beastly nature. Throughout Greek mythology, there were many heroes who were trained by Chiron, like Achilies, Patroclus, Jason even Heracles asked Chiron for advice and guidance.
Always Keep A Mirror Handy
Leaving aside the apple conundrum, we arrive at another familiar face.
