Geroskipou Shrine Caves Revisited
The Map Showing You Where It Is

From the annoying traffic lights take the turning to Geroskipou and drive up the hill until you get to a big junction with a right turn. Drive down there past the church, and turn right. Turn right again then immediately left. Follow the road around and you will come to these stairs. There are plenty of places to park here too.

That Building Again

Once you descend the steps you can see that interesting building more clearly. We will take a look at that in due course. First though, I want to see the Shrine Caves.
Building Border

Following the path around you come to the main building site. Don't worry though, there is a protective fence keeping you out, and a path hooks left to the chapel.
Chapel View

Ok, it is not that picturesque at the moment, but you can at least still access the area.
Caves Everywhere

If you haven't checked out the film I linked to yet, or seen our previous articles, you won't know what the Shrine Caves are, so a brief recap is in order. The cliffs here have a lot of caves in them. Historically, they were used by the Cult of Aphrodite for all sorts of schenanigans. More recently some of them have become shrines, full of votive offerings to assist in the faithful's prayers.

St George's Church and Shrine Caves
Near the shops on the Paphos / Geroskipou border, is a little track that runs below a cliff through some farmland. A sign indicates that there is a church down there, so one day I thought I would investigate. Sure enough, there was a little church, but there was so much more besides...Good Pages To Visit
