Amiantos Wild Art Gallery
Time For A Riddle

We have already seen some of Anna's work in our first and second articles on the hospital, so I shall start with the new stuff.
To get here, enter by the Mushroom Door, turn left and take the first right when you can see external stairs going down. This is at the foot of them.
Don't worry, there will be a film published later where we walk the route, so if you want to follow it yourself, watch that for pointers.

The Old Morgue

Anna's latest and greatest work is found in the old morgue. You can see the big slab there.
Anubis

On the side of the slab, is this portrait of Anubis.
Journey To The Afterlife

Aside from the amazing quality and attention to detail about Anna's work, I love the fact she has included QR codes giving you more information. On this wall there are two. The left one links to a Wikipedia article on mummification. The emojis in the picture also give you some clues as to what is going on.
The right one gives information on the Journey to the Afterlife. And again the emojis join in the tale too. You can see a coffin, and lots of other travel-related graphics. I wonder how the full story reads?
Judgement Of The Dead

This picture shows the Judgement of the Dead, well, half of it anyway. The right-hand QR links to information on Anubis. He is the God of Funerary Rights, protector of graves, and guide to the Underworld.

The Abandoned Hospital at Amiantos Mines
The Cyprus Asbestos Mine is situated right in the heart of Troodos forest. Following a continuous operation of 84 years, the mine came to a sudden closure in 1988, leaving behind large volumes of waste tips, a badly designed mine pit and an unacceptable environmental scar to an otherwise heavily forested natural beauty area. It also left behind a hospital, which now stands abandoned on the other side of the valley. While environmental steps have been taken to turn the area near the mines into a nature park, the hospital has been let to nature.
Return To Amiantos Hospital
Amiantos Hospital was abandoned in the Eighties, when the nearby mine closed down. along with the nearby village of Pano Amiantos. Now it is slowly being reclaimed by nature while at the same time being used as a sketchpad by the local graffiti artists. We continue past Lasa and Kannaviou, before taking in the delights of Panagia. Getting a bit more adventurous, we visit the abandoned villages of Statos and Agios Fotios, before passing through Choulou, Letymbou and Polemi, and rejoining the main Paphos - Polis road.
The route is suitable for all types of vehicle, and requires no off-roading. The guide contains about 130 photographs including shots of all the road signs you need to pay attention to, as well as some of the highlights you may experience along the way.
