Close Up

Two things we didn't see in this village were a mosque and a school. Presumably, they shared the school of the village on the opposite side of the valley.

Distant School

In this shot you can just make out the school in question, on the far side of the valley. That little white spec on the right was where we started the blog.

More Goats

When I got to the top of the hill I was surprised to find these goats had beaten me to it. I hadn't seen any goats while I had been exploring so don't know why these three were all alone. Perhaps they had escaped?

Above The House On The Hill

From here you can see that upturned water feature again, to the left of the house on the hill. You can also make out three rooms in the building. The rusty bed was in the far room. I still don't know how anybody managed to upturn that water feature, or why they bothered?

And that is all that remains of Alevga, and Selladi tou Appi. For some reason the tragedy of the situation felt stronger here than in villages like Evretou and Maronas. Perhaps it is because there are still military buildings in the area, and the border is near? Indeed, I had to cut quite a few pictures out, as they included areas which aren't supposed to be photographed.

Pomos View

I shall leave you with a nice glimpse of Pomos Harbour, which I took on the drive back to Polemi. Later in the year we will do a blog from there, as it is a lovely place to visit, and well worth a trip.

We recently assisted on a litter cleanup along the nature trail to Argaka Reservoir. While we were there, we couldn't help but notice the abandoned village of Makounta on the other side of the valley. We were also curious where the nature trail went once it passed the reservoir. So the other day we returned with our camera. This is what we found...

The Pomos Coast

Pomos is quite a trip from Paphos, but it is most definitely worth it. We were up that way to visit some abandoned villages and overflowing reservoirs this week, but stopped to take in the coast along the way. The countryside up there is breathtaking, and well worth a visit. Here's a short selection of what to expect.
