Akamas Road Update

More Walls

Are the walls here really necessary? I imagine their purpose is to prevent water from flowing down the road. Anybody who has driven on the Akamas will know that this is the prime cause of road deterioration here. During a winter storm, the roads can become rivers. So it makes sense to protect them properly.

Akamas Access Junction

The current preferred route to the Akamas from Paphos is to drive to Agios Georgios and take the junction that leads to a small church and the track to Avakas Gorge. Beyond the church, there is a left turn. If you take that road, instead of continuing to the Last Castle, it will bring you down here. Be warned though, the route isn't really suitable for a regular car, though many people will claim otherwise. All I will say is you should check with your car insurers first.

Empty Spaces

So how do you think the roadworks are affecting the Akamas? Does it look that bad, really?

It is too early to tell, but to be quite honest, it doesn't look disasterous. Besides, the Akamas area as a whole is huge. You would have to renovate an awful lot of roads in order to ruin it.

Avakas Gorge Junction

This is the road to the Last Castle and Avakas Gorge. I think the Gorge may well be closed at the moment, though I don't know for sure. Last Castle definitely is though. They are never open during winter.
