Agios Georgios Inauguration
The Ceremony
The ArchBishop and his colleagues performed the ceremony.
They sang most of the words, in a form of chant. It was very atmospheric, and unusual to me who was raised as a Catholic. However, I have heard lots of chanting when walking past church services in Cyprus, so I have always assumed it is part of their Ecclesiastical tradition. A quick search revealed the following: "Orthodox priests chant during services to elevate the words of the liturgy, connect with ancient traditions, encourage reflection, improve audibility in large spaces, and foster unity in worship."
Beautiful Sunset
It was a lovely blessing, and nature played her part, by providing a stunning sunset as a backdrop.
I shall leave you with a final shot of the church, in its beautiful surroundings. Well done to all concerned.
