A Tale of Two Beaches
First Impressions

My first impression was actually pretty good. There weren't the golden sands you find in Paralimni, or further up the Polis coast, but there was still some sand, and the beach was nice and clean. Further down the coast we could see Cypriot campers out in force too, so the area of coast obviously attracts the locals.
Good for Snorkeling!

I'm sure there is plenty to see in the water here too. There was actually a lady here with her daughter. You can see their dog in the sea if you look carefully. I photoshopped them out of the picture though, for the sake of their privacy.
Let's Go Exploring!

At this point I felt a bit deflated. I had heard bad reports about the Polis Dog Beach, from what I had just seen it was actually pretty good. In order to salvage something from what I considered to be a slightly wasted trip, I explored the coast some more. I wanted to get a picture showing Latsi in the distance, so I walked up this rocky shoreline.
The Penny Drops

When I reached this sign, everything became clear. The beach I had been on was not the dog beach.
Meet The Polis Dog Beach

No, this is the Polis Dog Beach. This is what the Polis Municipality consider to be an appropriate place to take your dog.
It is shockingly bad. Truly and utterly pointless. There is no beach here. It is just a collection of boulders. It is no wonder people take their dogs on to the ordinary beaches when the alternative is this. It is awful! Who designated this as a dog beach? Have they not visited the place? It is a disgrace, and an embarassment. Just compare it to the dog beach featured at the start of the blog.
It gets worse too. There are seven official dog beaches in Cyprus. Another one is the area where the river Ezousa meets the sea. The situation there is pretty much identical to what I found here.
I appreciate that you won't be able to give dog owners in the Paphos Region a nice golden sandy beach. They are at a premium in the area. But you should at least give them a beach where their dog can go for a run without breaking a leg!
