Vasiliko Necropolis
Nice Stoa
The book concludes:
The whole of the architectural data of the tomb falls within the end of the Hellenistic period. All the burial chambers seem to have been used for successive tombs in the Roman period. Some fresco samples in the shape of a cross prove that the tomb had been used in later times as a chapel by the Christians.
So there you have it. The book is called Paphos Archaeological Guide and Historical Review. As I said, I picked it up in the Archaeological Park gift shop. It was written by Demos Christou in 2008.
Deceptively Spacious
The first time I visited the site I could only see the chamber nearest the road. So I was surprised when I walked across the site to see these additional chambers.
What Lies Beneath?
There is evidence of more ruins to the west of the main site, too. I wonder if they will ever get dug up?
Mind The Fence
Have to admit, I was tempted to climb over or under the fence that surrounds the ruins, to get a closer look. I was a good boy though.
