Hardcore Goat Trail

On the way down I couldn't help but notice this odd identation in the side of the rock on the opposite side of the valley. I wonder if goats use it as a shortcut out of the gorge.

Road Closed For Renovation

Remember the Road Closed signs? This is why. They are constructing a bridge or something similar where the road meets the Avakas Gorge Road. On the day we did the walk, you could actually drive through the area. However, when you try it, the road may well have a cement lorry plonked in the middle, or something similar. So if you are thinking of using the road, you would be better off starting from the bottom.

Another Gorge!

As you walk down the hill back to Avakas Gorge, you will see another gorge heading off next to it. Do not attempt to go up here though. There are a lot of snakes, and you will need ropes and climbing equipment to get to the other end. By all means have a look, but I am not joking about the snakes.

Another Olive Tree

I shall end where the two roads meet again. There is a nice old olive tree here, which still has a bit of life in it.

The walk took us about three hours, and was great fun. If you do attempt it yourself, remember to bring plenty of water and a snack with you. Also, start early to avoid the rush, and don't do it if there has been rain.

Petratis Gorge - Part 1

Cyprus has an abundance of beautiful gorges. Most people know about Avakas, but there are many others. Petratis Gorge first came to our attention when we visited the Akamas Geology Centre. We saw it pictured and felt it needed further investigation. A quick google revealed that it was remarkably close to the Northern town of Latchi. So we set out to see what we could find.
