Geroskipou Shrine Caves Revisited

We recently went down to Geroskipou Shrine Caves to report on the Neapolis which was being built in the area. While we were there we revisited some old haunts and made some new discoveries.

We begin our adventure high above the fields of Geroskipou, looking towards the ridge of cliffs which form a natural boundary between town and country, for now at least. I took this shot because it shows three interesting features of the area. In the distance, you can see Millo's Tower. In front of that, at the top of the cliff, is a rather large statue of Aphrodite. Finally in the foreground, is a mysterious cave.

Actually, it's not that mysterious in reality. I visited it a few years ago and there was nothing particularly interesting about it. But if you didn't know that...

From that viewpoint we turned left towards the shrine caves themselves. There is a very nice linear walk here.

The drone also highlighted this interesting relic of a building on the other side of the Shrine Caves. But enough aerial shots. Let's go and take a look on foot.
