Exploring The Village Of Steni
Steni is a charming little village which lies between Lysos and Polis on the northern side of Paphos. As well as an historic monastery it also has a lovely Museum of Village Life which is well worth visiting. While you are there, be sure to admire the new bridge that is being constructed nearby. We took our drone with to get a decent look at it.
Central Steni
We shall begin our look at Steni with a drone shot showing its centre. In the foreground you can see the Municipal Building where you will find the Museum of Village Life. There is also a coffee shop on the Square itself and a tavern across the road. To the rear you can see the new bridge. Before we go inside, lets have a closer look at that.
Work In Progress
The bridge is coming along nicely, thanks to the hard work of Steni Community Leader Elias Lampidis. He has been trying to get the project up and running for 15 years, and now it is becoming a reality.
Side View
One of the main reasons for the bridge is to provide a circular route for people exploring the village. I did look online for more information, but rather bizarrely the top result was actually this article. This tends to suggest that there isn't a lot of information out there, in English at least.
Little Gorge
The bridge spans a river that has carved a niche through the rocks of Steni. If you were to follow it upstream you would come to Aetofolies gorge, which is one of the first places I flew a drone. It is a beautiful area largely ignored by tourists, which is a bit of a shame. If you want to see what it looks like, check out our Aetofolies Gorge Drone Film we recorded five years ago.
Full Frontal
There will be another film along in a couple of days showing a drone flight around and under the new bridge, as well as a tour of the museum. So look out for that too!

Let me take you on a journey around the region of Paphos, Cyprus. Starting at Paphos itself, we travel to Akoursos, then Kathikas, Kritou Terra and Simou. We continue past Lasa and Kannaviou, before taking in the delights of Panagia. Getting a bit more adventurous, we visit the abandoned villages of Statos and Agios Fotios, before passing through Choulou, Letymbou and Polemi, and rejoining the main Paphos - Polis road.
The route is suitable for all types of vehicle, and requires no off-roading. The guide contains about 130 photographs including shots of all the road signs you need to pay attention to, as well as some of the highlights you may experience along the way.
There are also several maps which will help you keep your bearings.
You can do this journey in a day, or you can break it up into chunks. You can also do it in reverse, to get some completely different views. It is entirely up to you.
