Roudia Bridge Time Warp
Roudia Repaired

And here is the magnificent bridge in all her repaired glory.
Max, another forum member, found the following information after some digging on the internet:
The bridge Routhkia, located 3 km from the Turkish Cypriot village Vretsia, in a altitude of 300m.
Built on the River Dry emanating from the mountains of Tripilos, in a lush desert area of trees, and pine sklidrous.
About the name of the bridge there are several versions. Prevailing version is from the Greek word Rouda which is the name of the plant Rouda (the Rous Vyrsodepsikos) that abounded there.
It is known soumatzii”.”During the Middle Ages was one of the main income of the island. From mythology was the”Jupiter”Rous.
According to earlier reports, the bridge had large pointed arch. Since the earthquake of 1953 almost destroyed the bridge.
To repair the needed amount of 280 pounds, which was considered excessive. In 1957, the widening of the street was thinking demolition. Fortunately rejected and in 1977 began the restoration of a total cost of 2,500 pounds. The arch has an opening height of 9,5 m and 5,6 m.

Good Job

I would say that the money was well spent.

Roudia Bridge is my favourite of all the Venetian Bridges I have found so far. Partly this is due to its remote location, compared to the other bridges. It is important not to dismiss it because it has been repaired. Look at Stone Henge. In Victorian times that was a mess. It looked nothing like the monument you see now. But it was painstakingly rebuilt and now it is one of Britain's top tourist attractions. Roudia Bridge is fantastic. The surrounding countryside is great to explore, there is even a nature trail. Plus, if you look around, there are pools within the water where you can go for a summer dip. One of them even has a swing! What's not to love?
One From The Top

So take a trip to visit Roudia Bridge, and you won't be disappointed.
Modern Bridge Fixed

If you missed our recent news article, we are also happy to report that the modern bridge used to access Roudia, which was washed away in the winter rain, has now been repaired. You can drive to Roudia from Vretsia now, though a 4x4 is very highly recommended.
