If you plan on getting up close and personal to the buildings, wear long trousers and decent walking boots. The vegetation, especially at this time of year, has a lot of very sharp, pointy seed pods, hidden amongst its aging stems and flowers. They are designed to travel by goat to nearby fields, but will quite happily latch rather painfully onto your legs if you are not careful.

It must have been a well-sheltered village in its day. I can only imagine how bad the earthquake must have been that caused all the residents to leave.

This building looked like it had multiple floors. The ground floor walls still looked pretty solid.

Unless you are a completist, there is no great need to visit pre-1953 Lapithiou. It is pretty overgrown now, and you can have much more fun going to somewhere like Theletra or Foinikas. So let's go down the road to the "new" area.
