The Other Side
We didn't see much in the way of waves on our visit, and certainly nothing to warrant the use of those boards, but I guess they must be used some times. It can certainly get very windy here, especially in the afternoon, so I can easily see some spring or autumn gales causing some serious surf.
Ayia Thekla
Our final destination was Ayia Thekla. From here we have access, with the drone, to a big chunk of coastline, as well as the Marina.
There is a little shrine cave in front of the chapel which is worth checking out.
The story of Thekla is actually a bit grim:
According to a legend, Thekla was engaged to be married, but after being inspired by the Apostle Paul she decided to give up her plans for marriage and went on to preach. Her parents were outraged by her decision and had her captured by the authorities to have her burnt in order to teach other young women a lesson.
Unfortunately, it was to be the drone's last voyage. The next day, we flew it elsewhere, just when Israel and Iran were bombing each other. GPS jamming caused the drone to think it was in Beirut and try to fly home from there. We lost contact with it, but eventually found it in a field, very much worse for wear.
Fortunately, I had taken out full insurance, so have already received a replacement, but I wouldn't recommend anybody flying a drone in the East of the Island for the time being. At the very least, check GPS on your smart phone first. If it is playing up, keep your drone in its box. It just isn't worth the risk.

eBookCyprus Road Trip 01: the Kathikas - Panagia Loop
Let me take you on a journey around the region of Paphos, Cyprus. Starting at Paphos itself, we travel to Akoursos, then Kathikas, Kritou Terra and Simou. We continue past Lasa and Kannaviou, before taking in the delights of Panagia. Getting a bit more adventurous, we visit the abandoned villages of Statos and Agios Fotios, before passing through Choulou, Letymbou and Polemi, and rejoining the main Paphos - Polis road.
The route is suitable for all types of vehicle, and requires no off-roading. The guide contains about 130 photographs including shots of all the road signs you need to pay attention to, as well as some of the highlights you may experience along the way.
There are also several maps which will help you keep your bearings.
You can do this journey in a day, or you can break it up into chunks. You can also do it in reverse, to get some completely different views. It is entirely up to you.
