Polis Archaeological Museum of Marion - Arsinoe

Published 10th of December, 2025

A few years ago we reported on some archaeological sites around Polis, and noted that finds from the dig were on display at the local museum. We have finally visited this establishment and thought we would show you some of what we found. So let's take a walk around the Archaeological Museum of Marion - Arsinoe.

The Main Entrance

The Main Entrance

Here's the museum. It is near the roundabout by the main church next to the nice bakers. If you still don't know where I mean, this link will take you to it on Google Maps. Alternatively, watch our recent film on Polis and Latchi, where we drive right past it at about the 5 minute mark.

Opening Times

Opening Times

These are the opening times. To be honest, we hadn't set off to visit the museum. We went to Polis to get the aircon regassed on my wife's car. We were told it would take at least 40 minutes, so we went for a wander and found ourselves here.

Anyway, they are open every day apart from Sunday.

Reception

Reception

When we went through the front doors we were greeted with this Reception Area. The lady in the hatch gave us our tickets and showed us the appropriate brochure. Entrance was free, but presumably they issue tickets for their own auditing purposes. It is worth noting that the brochure says the museum isn't open on Monday. However, as we visited on Monday, we know that this isn't true, so I would go with the opening times on the sign outside.

Let Us Begin

Let Us Begin

Notwithstanding the Monday issue, the brochure had some useful information. This is from the front page:

The Archaeological Museum of Marion-Arsinoe

(Polis Chrysochous)

The Museum in which the archaeological treasures from the ancient city of Marion-Arsinoe are exhibited.

The Atrium

The Atrium

The museum consists of several display areas around a central square you can see here. We will make our way around the rooms, and include more information from the brochure, as it helps put everything in context.

The Local Museum of Marion-Arsinoe in Polis opened its doors to the public in November 1998. It was erected by the Government of Cyprus with the generous financial support of Mr Nicos Shacolas.

The Museum consist of three exhibition spaces: Rooms I and II and the Atrium.
