Paphos Coast Path - The Missing Link
Going Bananas
I now had three choices. First I could follow this path through the banana plantation, assuming it went that way. Second I could go round the plantation to the right. Finally I could take a rocky route by the shoreline.
First though, note the blue sign on the left of the photograph. This informs people that they are on the Kissonerga Coastal Boulevard. Presumably the concrete I am standing on is part of that too. Is this part of the main Kissonerga Coast Path we were on earlier? And where did it lead?
Turn Around
The second question was easy to answer. The path didn't go any further at this end.
Banana Pod
If you recall from the start of this article, I first filmed my journey, and took pictures on the way back. When I was filming, I rejected the rocky route, as it would be unsuitable for most readers. So I headed up to the banana plantation. There was no path through it, so I followed a track right around it. This enabled me to get some close-up shots of the interior of a banana plantation. I was unaware that they produced these pods as they grew.
Sleep...
Now, the path around the plantations brought me out onto the main coast road. So it was a failure in terms of finding a route to Kissonerga that avoided it. Nevertheless, I walked along the road for about 50 metres until I found a left turn which headed back to the coast, on the other side of the plantation. I was then stuck at a dead-end though, so I picked my way through the plantation until I reached a small cliff which I was able to scramble down to get back on the rocky beach. You will see all this in Part 2 of the film.
While in the plantation, I admired the long poles the farmer used to support the plants. They were straight out of Salvador Dali's "Le Sommeil".
Insert Banana Pun Here
It is possible that I came into contact with some sap or spiderweb while in the plantation, which caused my reaction. However, they have plausible deniability, as you shall find out.
