We've been coming to Cyprus for the last 10 years. On our first visit, I was keen to explore an abandoned village, and the closest one I could find to Paphos on the map was Foinikas, on the banks o the Asprokremmos Reservoir. Since then we have returned on numerous occasions, and the photographs we took over time show just how much the water levels have fallen.

Police launch search after man beaten up

Police are investigating a case of grievous bodily harm after a man was reportedly attacked in Paphos on Thursday evening.

According to police, a man visited the Paphos hospital A&E department at 8.30pm where he was diagnosed with a broken nose by the doctor on duty.

The injured man was treated in the surgical ward.

Over 17,000 hunters set to head out on Sunday

Over 17,000 hunters are expected to head out on Sunday to mark the first day of the new hunting season, the game service announced on Friday.

The service asked hunters to behave appropriately, show respect to fellow hunters and to the property of others.

Picnic sites in mountains fill up with day trippers.

A number of picnic areas in the Troodos mountains are full as excursionists head to the mountains for the August 15 holiday, the Forestry Department has announced.

It said that the picnic sites at Platania, Pashia, Livadia, Mesa Potamiou, Kambi tou Kalogirou, Trooditissa, Xyliatou dam and Ayis Paraskevi in the Troodos forest are full.

39.7% of Cyprus covered by forests

Nearly 40% of Cyprus (39.7%) is covered by forests according to figures released by Eurostat.

This is very close to the EU average of 41.7%.

The EU member state with the highest proportion of land covered by forests is Finland with 71.3%, followed by Sweden with 66.5% and Slovenia with 63.4%.
