Patchwork Tree

This tree was decorated by Peace2Peace. They are a cross-community group that fosters peace in Cyprus by producing art installations and by generally being fab. They also did the dream catchers outside Ibrahim's Khan you will see in Part 2.

Guard Cat

To enter the inner echelons of the park, you have to pay the gatekeeper. I seem to recall a tickle behind the ear was the required fee.

I was surprised when I visited the park today, because there was a lady feeding them. That in itself was not a surprise, but the lady wasn't the usual, and famous, Paphos Cat Lady. I had read that PCL had hurt her leg and had asked for volunteers recently, so I asked the lady if she was with PCL. In fact, the lady was German (I think) and spoke very little English. So it looks like Paphos has more than one PCL.

Park Life

This surprised me. When we lived in the UK we were surrounded by Heathland. A spring walk through the gorse bushes would reveal lots of cobwebs adorned with morning dew. Some of those webs were real works of art. It isn't a sight I see in Cyprus though, possibly because the mediterranean heat evaporates the dew before I get up. However, in this shady part of the park, the dew survives long enough for me to notice it.

Old Paphos Revisited

Six months ago we posted a blog optimistically titled "A Last Look at Old Old Paphos". It proved very popular. In fact, with nearly 3000 views, it is our most popular blog to date. Six months down the line, the renovations are still not yet complete. So we thought we would take another look, to see how the work was progressing.

A Last Look At The Old Old Paphos

Old Paphos is undergoing a transformation. Not only that, but in a few days time, Paphos 2017 will officially get underway. So we thought we would take a last stroll and a few snaps of the area before the transformation is complete.

Old Town Cementography

You could be forgiven for not knowing anything about Cementography. It is a modern, Cypriot art form, that was celebrated in the dying days of Paphos 2017 by the placement of eight murals in and around Paphos Old Town. You may well have seen some of them on your travels, and some have featured in previous blogs. However, the murals actually depict different stages in a Cypriot fairy tale, so we thought it about time we presented the murals in order, with the accompanying story attached...

Paphos Murals

If you take a wander around the streets of Paphos, both old and new, you will occasionally stumble upon some random art installations. The patchwork tree is one such example, but there are other exhibits too numerous to mention here. Today, we are going to have a look at a subset of these works, and examine some of the murals you will find. Most of them are situated in a small area to the west of Kennedy Square. However, there are a few others scattered around, so it pays to explore...

Paphos Street Art

The murals that adorn some of the walls in Paphos Old Town are transforming drab exteriors into works of art. We covered most of the murals in blogs last year. However, while researching for a new blog on the Old Town, I found a few more...

More Paphos Murals

Over the weekend I was out with my camera, seeing how work on Old Paphos has progressed in the last six months. That is the subject of another blog (watch this space). However, while I was taking photos I found some more murals which I think warrant their own article...
