Old Old Paphos
Like many old cities, London included, a lot of Paphos is built on top of Paphos. So when you dig bits up, there is a chance that you can uncover some old ruins. The question is then asked - are they worth preserving?
Ancient Christian Basilica?
According to my limited research (a five-minute google) The Church of Panagia Theoskepasti was built on top of a 10th Century Byzantine Church. Perhaps these ruins are just another part of that? Are they worth preserving? Well, there are already a fair number of ancient Churches in Paphos, in varying states of repair. You only have to look at the ruins around St Paul's Pillar to see that. So would burying over one really be that much of a crime? I can understand excavating it to see what is there. I mean, how many mosaics must still be buried around Paphos, for a start? But if it turns out that your excavation doesn't reveal anything, is it worth protecting?
Agia Kyriaki Chrysopolitissa
Agia Kyriaki Chrysopolitissa is the Church near St Paul's Pillar. The road to it looks dug up, so we are turning left here, to head back to the Seafront.
This is where the traffic coming from the castle end behind Papantoniou's has to go now. Watch where you are walking if you are on foot.

Let me take you on a journey around the region of Paphos, Cyprus. Starting at Paphos itself, we travel to Akoursos, then Kathikas, Kritou Terra and Simou. We continue past Lasa and Kannaviou, before taking in the delights of Panagia. Getting a bit more adventurous, we visit the abandoned villages of Statos and Agios Fotios, before passing through Choulou, Letymbou and Polemi, and rejoining the main Paphos - Polis road.
The route is suitable for all types of vehicle, and requires no off-roading. The guide contains about 130 photographs including shots of all the road signs you need to pay attention to, as well as some of the highlights you may experience along the way.
There are also several maps which will help you keep your bearings.
You can do this journey in a day, or you can break it up into chunks. You can also do it in reverse, to get some completely different views. It is entirely up to you.
