Xeros River Offroad Adventure

Published 16th of August, 2022

When most people hire buggies in Paphos, they tend to head straight for the Akamas. Which is great, if you fancy doing a bit of off-roading down the Xeros Valley. You will have the area pretty much to yourself, and be able to create your own adventure without following in the dust trail left by somebody else. So what are you waiting for? Numerous water mills and a lovely old monastery are waiting for you, culminating in a fantastic bridge on the edge of Paphos Forest itself.

Begin At The Beginning

We shall start our adventure on the bridge that crosses the Xeros River between Nata and Choletria. This image shows the view up to Nata. If you turn left at the end of the bridge, you will have a brief offroad adventure to Foinikas and the Asprokremmos Reservoir. Today though, we are headed in the opposite direction. First though, we have to stay on tarmac, so head up towards Nata.

Turn Right Here

When you get to a T Junction, turn right and head up the valley.

Country Church

The road hugs the bottom of the valley. Occasionally you will come to a junction, with a road winding up the side of your valley to your left. Ignore these turnings and keep low.

We have driven past this church many times. I stopped once but it was locked, so I cannot tell you what it is like inside. Don't worry, there is a real treat in store for you in a while.

New Bridge

Eventually you will come to this swanky new bridge that spans the Xeros River. The old bridge was washed away a few years ago, and the repair went the year after. They seem to have done the job properly now though.

Let's Have A Map

I filmed our journey and am publishing it in three parts. This is the map that goes with the films, so you can see the route we took.
