Standing Stones

Actually, if you look just above centre you will see a small ring of stones. So at lease somebody was different!

And The Future...

So, what is to become of the Akamas? On the one hand a road network granting easier access to Lara Bay will allow more people to visit the turtles. But it will need to be policed.
Open Access?

Will there be urban creep at the same time though? This view towards Agios Georgios shows that in action. Will more roads mean more creep? Finally, there is talk of restricted access to the roads. I read somewhere that the plan was to prevent private cars, and restrict access to buses at designated sites. That would be horrible, if that came to pass. It would destroy the Akamas for a lot of people, and at a cost. The Akamas is not as popular as the beaches, Paphos, or any ot the towns. If you alienate it for the people who visit now, who is going to replace them? Casual holiday makers will prefers attractions closer to their hotel.
I don't say this with any axe to grind. I base my conclusion solely on the levels of interest shown in articles and films on the Akamas compared to other parts of Paphos. The authorities should make sure they don't make the mistake of pleasing nobody, when it is all finished.
The Alternate Route
This film shows the alternate route to get to Avakas Gorge. It avoids White River Beach, but should only be attempted in a 4WD car, and take extra care if it has been raining. The diversion starts about 6 minutes in.
Film Of The Works
Finally, here is our drone film we recorded of the area. You can get a better overall picture now.

We continue past Lasa and Kannaviou, before taking in the delights of Panagia. The route is suitable for all types of vehicle, and requires no off-roading. The guide contains about 130 photographs including shots of all the road signs you need to pay attention to, as well as some of the highlights you may experience along the way.
