The Abandoned Village of Theletra - Part 2
ΑΝΤΙΓΟΝΗ ΧΡΥΣΑΝΘΟΥ
Antigoni Chrysanthou, deceased 8th March 1982, aged 55.
This is interesting. The reason the villagers finally left Theletra was because of a big earthquake some 40 years ago. Presumably, this lady died after that earthquake, so the graveyard was still in use then.
Rest In Peace
I couldn't make out the name on this headstone, but she died in 1973 and was in her 70s.
How Old?
That's odd. Look at that headstone in the centre of the picture. It looks like Maria was buried there in 1920. It is unusual because all the other graves were quite a bit more recent than that, yet the headstone looks like it is fairly new.
Church View
As I said, I took photos of all the gravestones. If anybody is interested I can create an album on facebook and upload the pictures there. It may prove useful to a historian at some point. I don't know how good the records are of the local churches. I won't post them all here though, as it would get a bit repetitive.
Back To Life
Once I had photographed all the headstones I continued up the path, which was very overgrown. I eventually made it back to the main road through Theletra. This time I was on the other side of those pretty Cyprus Pines.
