The Call Of Choulou - Part 1
Nice Decorations
Choulou is an interesting village to explore, as you shall see. It is best explored on foot, as some of the roads are very narrow. I suggest parking behind the church and having a wander. We will show you that in a minute.
You will find, as you explore the village, a mixture of well maintained and dilapidated houses. This is one of the former, and has some nice ornaments and decorations.
Community Hospital
I am not sure what facilities they have at this hospital, or if it is still open. It is in good repair though. Anyway, let's have a bit of information on the village:
We found the following on a sign:
Choulou is a purely farming village with a long tradition, set in a varied landscape and producing a range of agricultural goods.
Choulou was once famed for its many traditional craftsmen.
The village is spread out across the gentle hillsides at the meeting-point of many small seasonal streams, which form an interesting agricultural landscape. Today the 140 inhabitants are mostly farmers.
The community council, together with the active "0 Rigas" cultural association and returned emigrants, develops initiatives for the promotion of the village by means of various events based on the revival of local traditions and customs.
Not So Ancient Bridge
While I was doing some research, I found that Choulou has a number of attractions, including several churches, a mosque, a waterfall, an ancient bridge and a cave. This bridge is obviously not that ancient.
Choulou Stream
This is the stream that runs through Choulou and under the bridges. I hadn't really noticed it in the past, until I did my article on the waterfall. In parts the stream does get a bit gorge-like, but it is very overgrown.
To The Church And Waterfall
Anyway, if you keep on the main road through Choulou you will soon arrive here. If you turn left you can drive to the church. Directly after it, turn right into the car park.

Let me take you on a journey around the region of Paphos, Cyprus. Starting at Paphos itself, we travel to Akoursos, then Kathikas, Kritou Terra and Simou. We continue past Lasa and Kannaviou, before taking in the delights of Panagia. Getting a bit more adventurous, we visit the abandoned villages of Statos and Agios Fotios, before passing through Choulou, Letymbou and Polemi, and rejoining the main Paphos - Polis road.
The route is suitable for all types of vehicle, and requires no off-roading. The guide contains about 130 photographs including shots of all the road signs you need to pay attention to, as well as some of the highlights you may experience along the way.
There are also several maps which will help you keep your bearings.
You can do this journey in a day, or you can break it up into chunks. You can also do it in reverse, to get some completely different views. It is entirely up to you.
