St George's Beach Renovation
Work In Progress
I don't know how long it will be before Alyki Beach opens to the public, but we will keep you posted!
One thought did spring to mind though. It will be interesting to see what happens here on the next Green Monday. In past years, the whole area has been rammed solid with cars and bbqs. That will no longer be possible, so hopefully the powers that be will plan ahead and redirect the crowds elsewhere.
Meanwhile, to the right of the new beach, you have St George's Monument and the St George Beach Hotel grounds, with a beach in front of them. If you want a closer view of the enigmatic monument, see our Youtube Film of it. And yes, I apologise for the soundtrack!
Up The Coast
I also took the opportunity to snap a nice picture of Sandy Beach in Lempa, which is just up the coast. Note that there is a lifeguard here, but no artificial reef. Do not swim here if there is no lifeguard on duty, as the area suffers from bad riptides. There are huge signs up warning people of the danger, but they tend to get ignored.
St George Beach
Let's finish on a more cheerful note though, with a picture of the existing St George Beach. Will this also be known as Alyki Beach, or will it keep its own identity? Time will tell...
