Or perhaps Alitzi Beach is this one? This is a rocky area before the sandy bit. There are some warning signs here so presumably people do swim here.

If you see signs like this on a beach in Paphos, you would do well to read them and pay attention. I don't have the statistics to back up my claims, but I am pretty sure that death by drowning is the number one killer of tourists in Cyprus. Now, this also indicates how safe Cyprus is as a destination in general, but EVERY year, there are reports of drownings. Lots of beaches now have artificial reefs which will help, but sometimes people still manage to get into difficulties. This isn't the fault of the reefs. But some people just ignore the signs, and choose an area to swim away from the reefs. This is precisely what happened at Venus Beach last year.

Beyond the toilets, as you can see here, is another beach that looks sandy. Also, you will note that there is an artifical reef in front of it, so it is much safer to swim here.
