Peyia Bridge
We recently published a film of the unusual Bailey Bridge at Trozena which proved quite popular. And in the past we have featured the famous Trimiklini Double Bridge, and a host of Venetian Bridges. But one structure tops them all in terms of weirdness and eccentricity. And it is a lot closer to home. So let's give some love to Peyia Bridge.
View From The Coast

You can see the bridge as you drive into Peyia from Paphos. It will be on your right as you go past the new Linear Park on the left. From a distance it looks a bit like one of those RFID codes you see all over the place these days.
Close Up

And here is a close-up. Now, be honest. Have you ever seen a bridge that looks like that before?
Dry River

I can find no information about the bridge online. A google of "peyia bridge" reveals lots of articles on Venetian bridges in Cyprus, but none on this. I don't know who built it, but I think I can say with some certainty that it wasn't the Venetians. One thing I did learn, from Google Maps, is that the dried up stream is called Xeros River. Why? There is already a Xeros River. It has its own valley, and runs into the Asprokremmos Reservoir. Why couldn't they call this one something else?
From The Other Side

Anyway, we are here to look at the bridge. Once we had found how to drive to it, we parked up and I launched the drone for some close-up shots. There were quite a lot of power lines and birds about, so I had to be careful.
Why?

Ok, so let's talk about the design of the bridge. It appears to be in at least two parts. By far the most interesting are all these tubes. Did somebody have a job-lot of pipes left over from a drainage project?
