Peace 2 Peace Exhibit Again
You may remember back in Spring we blogged about the The Patchwork Tree in Ivis Maliotou Park. That was assembled by Peace2Peace. Well, they will soon be doing another installation at Ibrahim's Khan, in Old Paphos. But prior to that, we caught up with another of their exhibits, at St. Sophia Mosque. We also took the opportunity for another stroll around the area, to have a look at the brand new Markideio Theatre...
St. Sophia Mosque
St. Sophia Mosque is undergoing renovation work, along with the rest of Old Paphos.
March of the Patchwork
Recently, the gates of the mosque have become adorned with patchwork squares and larger shields.
The patchworks are nothing to do with the renovation work. They are an art installation by Peace2Peace.
The patchwork appeared in late April, apparently. This is what the official pafos2017 site had to say about it:
An installation on the fencing of the St. Sophia Mosque (Cami-i Kebir) marks the start of the activities of the Women’s Bicommunal Team Peace2Peace in Pafos, in the context of the Revisiting Mouttalos programme. Women from all over Cyprus meet and jointly create crochet installations and highlighting the concepts of creativity, peace and coexistence. Crochet, as one of the most widespread traditional handicrafts, acts as a link to the daily lives of people and the crochet pieces of this installation are parts of the same connective web comprising of different and identical patterns.
A Noble Goal
At Paphos Life we are all for anything that promotes peace without the need for any signed agreements or political dialogue. That may keep lawyers happy but ordinary people will only find peace when they treat each other with equal respect. Exhibits like this embrace that philosophy, and we applaud them for it.
