Crowds

Crowds

It was nice to see the walkway crowded with people. The War in Iran has put a lot of people off travel this year, so Cyprus has been quieter than usual. On Kataklysmos though, the locals come out to play.

Has anybody ever played Beer Pong here?

Now this is the kind of stall I like. I love all the nut creations you can get here, especially the pomegranate-flavoured clusters. I've never been much of a fan of soutzoukos though. These are the long things you can see to the right of the sign.

Soutzoukos is a traditional, chewy sweet made from grape juice that has a unique appearance (it looks similar to a candle!), and is popular at traditional festivals.

The sweet is made using the surplus of grapes after the grape harvest, which is why it is commonly made in the wine producing villages of the Troodos and Paphos regions.

Most of the stalls will offer a sample before buying though, so try for yourself!

Sparkling Balloons

The gift shops along the Sea Front were not to be outdown by the stalls. They had their own displays outside their main shopping areas. The balloons you can see here had a nice sparkle which obviously loses something in a picture. I did a flim on Saturday as well though, so have a look if you want to see them animated. You can view that here:

Think Pink

The legend that is Pink Panther returned for another year. Other classics making a re-appearance included deformed Spiderman and bloated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
