Paphos Fires
Lucky Houses

The residents of Pelathousa were lucky not to lose everything. The fire came at them from nearly every direction.

Illegal Dump?

Apparently, the fire started at an illegal dump site. These are far too common in Cyprus. A lot of villages will have a location where people seem to accept they can dump whatever they want. They are normally out of sight, but on our travels we find them fairly frequently. I shan't name names, as the practice is too widespread for that. However, this is what such dumps can lead to.
Scarred

What is ironic is that there is a Green Point not too far away from Pelathousa, in Chrysochou. I know this, because I used it before driving here. It didn't take long, and had people used the Green Point instead of the illegal dump then none of this would have happened.
Polis Coast

So if you are thinking of dumping a carload of crap in the local illegal dump, please think again. Take it to one of the Green Points. They work really well and are getting more and more popular.

On a happier note, there is a great off-road route between here and Steni. I drove down it on the way back to Polemi. Not for the faint-hearted, you will have a good laugh if you enjoy that sort of thing. Just steer clear of the Army Range!

Clean Up Paphos!
Rubbish has long been an issue in the region of Paphos. While fly-tipping no longer occurs on every hillside corner, it is still a big problem. In the last few years however, a number of Green Points have been set up throughout Paphos. The only trouble is, very few people seem to know about them. So we decided to track them all down, and show you what to expect when you visit. If you want the rubbish situation in Paphos to improve, it is in your own interests to use these places. We appreciate that a tour of recycling points won't make scintilating viewing, so we took the scenic route to bring you some pictures of the countryside too...Good Pages To Visit
