Kouklia Archaeology
The Archaeological Park covers the area known as Nea Paphos. The orginal Paphos is actually in Kouklia. Most of it is still waiting to be uncovered, but slowly, the historians are doing just that. We went down to the fields around the village to see for ourselves.
Distant History
I first visited these fields a few years ago, with an old friend called Max, who is sadly no longer with us. He was an amateur Historian and had had his eyes on Kouklia for years. I remember finding a cave with him and using my 360 camera on a long pole to investigate what turned out to be a fox hole. We visited the fenced-off dig sites too, but it was apparent that the excavators didn't appreciate spectators, so we didn't return.
I saw an article a couple of weeks ago in the press though, that spoke of new discoveries. So I checked on Google Maps, and now a couple of sites were marked, so I returned with Alex for another look. There were two points of interest, both of which you can see here. On the left is part of the old city wall, while on the right is an ancient factory.

Handy Map
This map shows the whole area. On the left you have the Archaeological Museum in Kouklia. On the right towards the top, are the ancient walls and below that the production and stroage complex. The previous shots were taken from the road at the top of the map.
Close Up
Zooming in a bit, you can see a dig site on the left, and the other two locations on the right. We drove along the track below the dig site to the sharp turn in the centre of the map.
