Kefalos Hotel Excavation

Published 18th of December, 2025

They are building a new hotel between the Elysium and Kefalos Beach Holiday Village, and they appear to have dug up something interesting in the process. With the help of my drones trusty zoom lens I was able to get a close look at what they have uncovered. Let's take a peak.

Building Site

Building Site

This is the building site as it stands on December 18th 2025. If you look on Google Street View you will see a similar scene, albeit taken a few weeks or months earlier.

Closer

Closer

A 3 times zoom reveals... what? Are we looking at a lot of tombs, or something else? You have to remember that this is right next to Tombs of the Kings. So the possibility of more graves is an easy conclusion to come to.

Zooming in further, we can see the remains of rooms, or are they more tombs? Traditionally, old ruins tend to get called "early Christian basilica", and that's about as far as my knowledge goes. So please, if you have any information on what we might be looking at I would love to hear from you.

And There's More

And There's More

This section looks more tomb-like.

Dirt Piles

Dirt Piles

I note also that the dirt that has been lifted from the ruins is now neatly pile up to one side. My theory on this is that Archaeologists have been given a period of time to examine the structures, after which they will be covered over again, so that the hotel can be built. This would explain why all the dirt has been kept here.

Now, I could of course be completely wrong, so let me have your own opinions.
