Cyprus is full of adventure too. If you like exploring, take a look at our hidden gems section. These will either be places you would never usually go to, or more remote parts of popular attractions. They are definitely worth checking out if you like exploring. The above picture, for instance, is a hard-to-reach shrine on the banks of the Evretou Reservoir.
Stunning Cyprus Scenery
The countryside of Paphos is often overlooked, and this is a crying shame. Once you get away from the seaside and above the humidity level, Paphos is a rich variety of landscapes. Valleys packed with a variety of flora and fauna give way to rocky outcrops that play host to an abundance of birds. These articles will show you what the Paphos countryside is like the whole year round. You will be amazed at how green Cyprus gets during springtime, for instance.
A Past Tinged With Tragedy
Cyprus is still a divided country, and you will find remnants of that if you travel through the countryside. Abandoned villages are a not unusual sight. Most will be as a result of the 1974 invasion. After this, Turkish Cypriots were moved to the occupied area while Greek Cypriots were moved to the Republic of Cyprus. So if you explore these ruins, please do so with respect.

eBookCyprus Road Trip 01: the Kathikas - Panagia Loop
Let me take you on a journey around the region of Paphos, Cyprus. Starting at Paphos itself, we travel to Akoursos, then Kathikas, Kritou Terra and Simou. We continue past Lasa and Kannaviou, before taking in the delights of Panagia. Getting a bit more adventurous, we visit the abandoned villages of Statos and Agios Fotios, before passing through Choulou, Letymbou and Polemi, and rejoining the main Paphos - Polis road.
The route is suitable for all types of vehicle, and requires no off-roading. The guide contains about 130 photographs including shots of all the road signs you need to pay attention to, as well as some of the highlights you may experience along the way.
There are also several maps which will help you keep your bearings.
You can do this journey in a day, or you can break it up into chunks. You can also do it in reverse, to get some completely different views. It is entirely up to you.
