Old Walls

Walking from the house in the previous shot towards the waterfall site, you can see numerous old dry-stone walls. Presumably, this part of the village used to be farmland. We went as far as the trees but it soon gets both boggy and overgrown, and there is clearly no more village there. So we headed back towards the houses, at a lower level.

Ruins

It's not obvious from the road, but Gerovasa is built on a slope. A lot of the buildings are hidden by trees. We are now at point 2 on the map.

Outhouse?

I wonder what this round building was? An outdoor loo perhaps? It is too high to be an oven.

Nature Returns

I am forever fascinated by nature's ability to reclaim its territory.

The houses were pretty solidly built here. The chimney stack is still intact and the walls all look pretty robust.

If you've driven over the iron bridge which lies just beyond the abandoned village of Gerovasa, near the outskirts of Paphos Forest, then you will also have driven past the abandoned village of Trozena. Unless you are very observant, you won't have noticed it though, as it is barely visible from the road. It is worth taking a detour to explore the ruins, as these photos will hopefully show...
