Farmland In Use

It should be pointed out that this area is in heavy use by farmers. If you find a farm vehicle blocking your way just be patient. They will be happy to move it for you.

Michalis Party

Now, according to Google Maps, there is a tavern along here called "Michalis Party". I had assumed it was abandoned, and that this was it. However, when I looked at the satellite view of the area, it turns out that Michalis Party is actually a couple of hundred metres down the road. In the middle of a field. So the above shot is probably just of some old farm buildings.

What was Michalis Party though? Perhaps somebody had a picnic there, blogged about it, and in an interesting quirk of google, their picnic was picked up as an eating establishment. Who knows? However, it is possible to leave reviews for Michalis Party, so perhaps we should have a competition, and see who can write the best one?

So Mystery #1 is this: what was Michalis Party?

Turn Right Here!

Don't worry, we will visit the ocean soon enough, but for now, we need to turn right and then look for another right.

Mysterious Roof

Nearly there now! This was another spot we found thanks to geocaching. Mind you, it took us a few attempts before we found the cache at this particular location.

Ancient Monument

And there you have it. Unfortunately, all the sign says is that this is an ancient monument. It doesn't say what it was. So let's go through the gate and try and find out...

The Ancient Sugar Factory At Kouklia

As you drive along the A6 from Paphos to Limassol, you will pass the Asprokemmos Dam on your left. Just after that you will see some old ruins. This is the site of an ancient sugar factory.

Kouklia Memorial

We recently blogged about a little shrine by the motorway. It turns out that it was placed there in memory of two soldiers who lost their lives in a helicopter accident. I was confused myself, because I knew there was a helicopter crash memorial, but it was a little further away from Paphos, near Kouklia. An internet search revealed that there had been two crashes. So in the interest of fairness, I thought we should take a look at the other shrine. It isn't visible from the motorway, but if you take the trouble to find it, you will not be disappointed, as it is a lovely memorial...

Ancient Lemba

Yesterday a news headline caught my eye: "An ancient Chalcolithic settlement site in Lemba in Paphos urgently requires maintenance, according to the local community leader". We had visited this site before, so I thought I should revisit it to see just how urgent the maintenance was...

Kissonerga Mosfilia

Tucked away in the lower reaches of Kissonerga, lies a site of great historical importance. Similar in appearance to the ancient village of Lemba, which is currently closed for maintenance, Kissonerga Mosfilia is a perfect way to spend half an hour if you fancy something a little different. Like most of our findings, it was a happy accident that brought us to this ancient settlement. We were avoiding a roadblock and happened to pass this sign on our way to the coast road. Brown signs often signal something interesting, so we stopped to take a look...
