Paphos Blue Flag Beaches
Sea Defences
On the other side of the beach you can see an old army Pill Box, and if you look to the left you can see another artificial reef that has recently been completed.
Another advantage about this beach is that it is attached to the camping site, and with it the camping site amenities. Consequently, it has decent loos and changing areas. The cafe is also very nice. And from there, we learned a great tip for dealing with annoying mosquitos and wasps. You simply put some cyprus coffee powder (unused) into a bowl, and set fire to it. It will smoulder away and the smoke it gives off drives away the bugs.
Polis Municipal Beach
Moving down the coast towards Latsi, we come to Polis Municipal Beach. This is outstanding if you a are disabled fan of the water, as we shall see.
Pebbles and Sand
This isn't the sandiest of beaches, but there were a few sandcastles in evidence. There is also plenty of free parking and decent facilities.
Disabled Access
But this is the best thing that Polis Municipal Beach has to offer - easy access to the water for the old and infirm!
My wife was in a wheel chair for about a year, a while ago. I cannot tell you how difficult it was getting her in and out of the sea without causing her any pain. The waves make mobility so much harder. Had this been available then we would have used it all the time. I do hope some of the other beaches will follow suit. It won't work at every beach, but there are certainly a few that could have a similar ramp.
Water Wheelchair
As well as the purpose-built ramp, they have a wheelchair specially designed to be wheeled into the sea. This is top notch! When I was there taking photographs there was an old man on the other end of the ramp, who was sat in a chair up to his neck in water, and just enjoying the water splashing around him. I cannot tell you how happy he looked.
