Abandoned Villages

Cyprus has more than it's fair share of abandoned villages. Most were abandoned after the troubles of 1974. However, some have been abandoned as a result of earthquakes and similar natural phenomena. When you explore these places, please treat them with respect. It is not unknown for relatives of the displaced to return to these villages for a visit.Don't add to their woes by leaving a mess. Don't let that put you off visiting them though. There is something eerily beautiful about these ruins, which has to be seen to be appreciated.
