The hearing for the case of a 19-year-old British woman who was detained on charges of public mischief after withdrawing a gang rape claim was postponed on Monday until August 27.

Fires in Lara, Pelathousa out of control

Two fires in the areas of Lara and Pelathousa are out of control, the fire service said on Sunday afternoon.

According to the department, the fire in Lara broke out at about 2.25pm while five minutes later a second fire broke out in the community of Pelathousa.

Fire engines and helicopters are fighting the blazes but strong winds are making the job difficult.

Man drowns in Polis Chrysochous

A 73-year-old man lost consciousness while swimming at a beach in the Polis Chrysochous area on Sunday.

It was around 17.30 when he was spotted by other swimmers who brought him to shore and called for an ambulance.

He was taken to Paphos Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.
