The Polis Coast In August
It's August, and Cyprus is on Holiday. Normally empty beaches in hidden coves have sprung to life, as the local Cypriot population come out to enjoy the summer sun. I thought it would be fun to capture the mood so I took the drone and my camera out to record the experience.
Blissful Wilderness
We shall begin our adventure at, or rather above, the Aphrodite Family Eco Camping Site, next to the Baths of Aphrodite. It is a great place to stay if you fancy exploring the Akamas. It offers a hearty walk to the Blue Lagoon, as well as numerous amazing nature trails which run through the hills.
By the way, if you were thinking of exploring the Akamas by road from this point, you should make sure you are fully insured and driving a decent 4x4. There have been several deaths over recent years, caused by people hiring buggies and losing control of them as they negotiate the winding track along the cliff.
Green Lagoon
It doesn't look very busy at the moment, but looks can be deceptive. We could see cars there, but they were all understandably parked under the trees.
Aphrodite's Hidden Beach
Today we aren't interested in the Akamas though. Instead I want to concentrate on the coastline that runs from here to Polis.
Aphrodite's Restaurant
There is a very nice beach just below the restaurant here. It comes complete with a Lifeguard Station and showers up by the food area. I'm sure if the Authorities bothered to apply it would qualify for blue flag status, but I have given up banging that particular drum.
More Sunbeds
There's actually a track to the east of the restaurant that will allow you to drive close to the beach. So if you have a lot of gubbins to unload you could drive down here then park back up at the main car park.
