Paphos Carnival 2023
After a COVID-induced break, the Carnival returned to Paphos today. We were there with our cameras to take in the scene. So let's Party!
Kennedy Square

This year, the Carnival had a change of venue. Instead of the Sea Front, it ran from the Makarios III Memorial, along the B6 to Kennedy Square. I arrived at the Square half an hour early, and already there were a lot of people around. I wanted to walk towards the Monument until I found a suitable location to view the Carnival as it passed and fly my drone in safety.
Now You Know

In previous carnivals I had missed all the stalls selling tinned string and confetti, and wondered where it all came from. In doing this route I walked past all the stalls that actually sold them. So that was one mystery solved. Prior to that, I had assumed they all came from Jumbo.
Drone Eye View

You will see the carnival through three different lenses in this article. I had my regular DSLR. I also brought the drone. Finally, I filmed parts of the carnival, and included some screen grabs. There will be a full film along later, but I wanted to get this article out as soon as possible because I know people want to see what the carnival was like.
Distant Lighthouse

One advantage about having the carnival along this road is that people will be able to see what the roads look like once they have been renovated.
Carnival Favourites

The balloons were selling well. My drone saw a few of them in the sky too.

We continue past Lasa and Kannaviou, before taking in the delights of Panagia. Getting a bit more adventurous, we visit the abandoned villages of Statos and Agios Fotios, before passing through Choulou, Letymbou and Polemi, and rejoining the main Paphos - Polis road.
