Old Paramali - Aphrodite meets Call of Duty
Traditional Paintings
Not everything was new though. These paintings were much more traditional.
The Cross
Interestingly there was no skull and earthquake depiction at the foot of this crucifix. I make a point of checking now, and it does crop up fairly frequently. There was more silverware by the two figures next to Jesus on the cross. You can see a cross on the left, and a round piece on the right.
Modern Votive Offerings
Regular readers of these blogs will be familiar with the wax votive offerings we find in visits to Cypriot Churches. Well they have been replaced in this church with more modern objects. These silver and golden offerings presumably share the same function as their wax counterparts. The baby is to help a couple conceive. Presumably the heart behind it and slightly to the right, is to help a prayer for health and well-being?
These were what I would consider to be the more traditional images I would normally expect to find in one of the churches. I did like the variety in this church though.
Flag Day
I also liked the religious bunting they had in the church. It made the place very welcoming.
