Re: Terrible tragedy
My daughter and son in law are staying at a beach resort in Sri Lanka, they are safe but hotel is in lockdown and all social media shut sown, she managed a phone call last night to say they were ok, they are supposed to be flying home tonight but that's going to be a problem. She says the people of ...

Re: Original Nuremberg sausages (Lidl).. don't overcook them
Max, your recipe sounds delicious, I must try it.
On another note, the biggest of your Quince root cuttings is now a lovely small tree with blossom!!!
Sadly the two smaller ones did not survive the heat but I look forward a small crop of quinces for jelly later in the year.
The first jar is yours!!!

Re: is anyone else having internet problems?
I live in Trimithousa and indeed we have had a few problems with Internet outages over Christmas and NY, it is usually brief but annoying all the same, contact Cyta if that is who you use as an Internet provider. that is probably your best action. Maybe water in the works!!!! You may be right there...

Re: Christmas Tree
Devil, I think you would find that only Catholics and Episcopalians in Scotland celebrated Xmas up until the 60's - with threats of sacking, if a man took time off on Xmas day.... New Year was seen as the "Protestant' festival - all changed now, thankfully.... I'm neither Catholic nor Episcopa...

Re: Christmas tv adverts
I'm with you here HIC, I absolutely hate the non-word xmas! X long predates the English suffix mas...............X is the Greek symbol for Christ, used in the first century by believers. And much as we might dislike today's excess at Christmas, or even Xmas........the celebration at midwinte...

Re: Bee eaters staying longer this year?
Certainly where we live they are staying longer and flying a lot lower so we can see their beautiful plumage. That's what I've noticed, here in Anoygra they usually only appear for a few days, but this year they have continued to delight us for much longer. I am lucky in that they tend to perch on ...

Bee eaters staying longer this year?
Is it my imagination or have these lovely birds spent longer on their Cyprus break this year?
We have had them flying around for over two weeks now, not that I'm complaining but it seems in previous years they only graced us for a few days.

Re: Grey Shrike ( Lanius minor) ? First time pic
Great pic Max. I sometimes see a Grey Shrike sitting on the fence across the lane from my house, there is a large pile of old branches piled up next to the fence, and he seems very interested in the insect/larvae life in the wood. Beautiful bird (if little sinister looking!)

Shame on you Hudswell for your smug, selfish views. Many/most refugees who flee to Cyprus are, as the article stated, of Arab origin. Many/most are escaping the war-ravaged country of Syria, where there is still conflict with IS and government forces. IS still hold parts of NW Syria and Assad's reg...
