Christmas Tree
Christmas Tree
Hello, we are moving to Kato tomorrow and would like to know where we can get a Christmas Tree. Is there a garden centre that carries them or any places that deliver? If we are out of luck, then any information on nice fake trees and decorations is appreciated. Thank you!

Re: Christmas Tree
In Limassol the Government nursery at Fassouri used to sell real Christmas trees to the public. I do not know whether this is still the case, nor whether indeed there is such a place in Paphos. I would imagine that a large garden centre here might have small trees with roots however.

Re: Christmas Tree
London Garden Centre on the Mesogi road usually have real trees. Super Home, Alphamega & Papantoniou all have artificial trees of various sizes.

Re: Christmas Tree
Call me Scrooge! No tree, artificial or real, in our house for over 20 years! I may be totally ignorant (don't agree too readily!), but I have yet to find a connection between a conifer and other decorations with the birth of Jesus, between the material and the spiritual meaning of Christmas.

Re: Christmas Tree
I suppose Christmas has nothing to do with Jesus, either? I'm not a Christian but my Scottish Presbyterian upbringing still allows me to respect those who are Christian without any of the commercial claptrap. I remember when Christmas Day was an ordinary working day in Scotland (up to the war in '39): no street decorations, shops open normally.
Re: Christmas Tree
Devil, I think you would find that only Catholics and Episcopalians in Scotland celebrated Xmas up until the 60's - with threats of sacking, if a man took time off on Xmas day.... New Year was seen as the "Protestant' festival - all changed now, thankfully....
Re: Christmas Tree
I think we all know that a Christmas tree has nothing to do with the birth of Jesus, but it does make me for one, feel more cheerful on the darkest days of the year, turkey, tinsel, crackers, silly hats, nothing to do with Jesus, but we can appreciate good cheer non the less, oh yes, and that glass of Baileys.

I'm neither Catholic nor Episcopalian and @ almost 70 years old
I have never heard of that before.
I am Scottish Presbyterian and certainly my family all celebrated
Christmas Day pre 1960's.

Re: Christmas Tree
IMHO, it was the war and large numbers of conscripted non-Scots in Scotland that introduced mainstream Christmas celebrations. Remember also that the Sabbath could no longer be respected during the war with 24/7 employment. Even the Wee Frees drew back their blinds on Sundays during the war!
