Re: Turtle Shame

It's been confirmed that the turtle had been dead a couple of days, but that's it. Hopefully this sort of behaviour won't happen again - https://cyprus-mail.com/2026/01/22/parliament-moves-to-close-loophole-after-chloraka-turtle-abuse "The parliamentary environment committee will pursue amendme...

Re: Turtle Shame

One thing I read on the Cyprus & East Med Sea Life Facebook group was that it was dead and full of live crabs, so they were banging and throwing it to get the crabs out of it before they put it in their vehicle to remove it. I have no idea if this is true or not (and if it is, why hasn't it been...

Re: Troodos Winter Wonderland

I'm envious! It's beautiful and nice and crisp. I'd love to see Troodos covered in fresh snow, including on the trees, again, it's been a few years now. Alas, I can't take time off work now to head up there, and there's no point this weekend as it will be far too busy and the snow melting and slushy...

Cut them in half and roast them. Toss with olive oil, seasoning, some garlic if you like, and also some bacon/pancetta bits if you like. Total game changer. I hated boiled sprouts, but now make this dish quite a few times in winter.

Re: Paphiakos Protest at Paphos Court House On November 14 (10 am)

There was an eviction order in 2004 and a court appearance the animal numbers were 1000, at the time the press said the Church owned the land. Yeah, I seem to remember that there was a scare that they would have to move many years ago, and they had tried to find new land and had somewhere in mind, ...

Re: Max Rapp - Rest In Peace

Oh, this is the saddest news. He was such a big part of this forum, and his posts have been noticeable by their absence these last few weeks. The forum won't be quite the same without him. I always enjoyed his posts, photos and stories and will very much miss them.

Re: Renal Problems In Cats

Good luck. I have been through it with a cat with chronic kidney disease, and unfortunately have to admit it got harder as time went on. At the beginning she was ok with the special diet food, but got fussier as time went on and wouldn't eat it - and I tried many different brands. I can't offer much...

Re: Lottery Dream

On the same subject, but on a tangent... Does anyone know the Cyprus Opap rules, for Joker etc? How much Cyprus tax would you pay on a large win (well, I can dream, can't I?)? Can non-residents play Joker? Eg, my family have bought tickets when visiting when there's a large prize. If their ticket wo...

Re: Fires 🔥

It's all so devastating and heart breaking. It's such a lovely part of Cyprus, I love driving up there and exploring the villages and countryside and hidden gems. And it's outstanding what a large area it covered, how much was lost. I'm dreading the next time I drive up there, though of course that ...

This is sad news. As a long-time forum member, CL before PL, I'm sure I read hundreds of his posts over the years. I missed them when he stopped posting here.

Condolences to his family.

Re: Trozena Reborn

What a lovely post, it's been a couple of years since I drove through the village so I'll have to go back soon. I first came across the waterfall by accident years ago, it was a lovely surprise. Hopefully we'll have enough rain next winter for it to flow again.

That is worrying, poor foxes and other wildlife. I am envious though that you got to see one up close and get a photo. The few times I have seen a fox they've just been quickly running across the road. Just for you, Ams, the next day the male fox appeared at my garden and I got him just after it wa...

Re: Getting To Foinikas From Anarita

I walked to Foinikas from the water treatment building a few weeks ago. An enjoyable walk if you don't mind the uphill on the way back. It's not too steep though. The walk took me around 2 hours round trip but that's me taking it very easy, walking down a bit as well as up to Foinikas, and stopping ...

Re: Shipping products from UK

With eShop you have to fill in the customs declaration once the parcel arrives at their warehouse, even when it's an EU warehouse, and then you pay the VAT and customs charge (for UK parcels) when it arrives in Cyprus. So all seems above board. (I have nothing to do with the company, I've just found...
