Re: Full moon yesterday

Thanks for the photos Max. I watched it rise from Timi beach, with its light reflecting on the sea, and it was stunning. It was nice to see quite a few people stop and watch it and take photos. I took quite a few pics, over the next half hour, but sadly I only had my phone and underwater camera - I ...

Re: Passion fruit

Your post is quite a coincidence HIC. I was just wondering earlier this morning if passion fruit grew well in Cyprus and how easy it would be to grow. I've not long come back from a holiday where I was starting and ending my day with passion fruit - in the morning scooped over plain yoghurt for brea...

Re: Pedestal Fans

I find the noise of my upright fan quite distracting. Funny, I get so used to the sound of the fan in my bedroom at night, I miss it at the end of summer! I almost need it fall asleep. I keep the fan going as long as possible in October, moving it further across the room and pointing it upwards. I ...

I thought of Platanisteia but on 2nd thoughts it looks too far away from the coast for that. Archimandrita?

Re: Do you know Cyprus? Villages (#21) difficult!

You can't drive direct to Prastio from the Extreme View cafe. You are better off following the signs to the monastery and then turning left once you have crossed the river. Then you have to follow tracks that take you a bit up the hill. You will eventually have to walk through a field to get there....

Re: Do you know Cyprus? Villages (#21) difficult!

Thanks Max

I drove past Xtreme view on Saturday and thought to myself that I really must, at some point, follow the signs to Prastio. I've driven that road countless times and often stopped at the café, but never ventured down that road. I will definitely add it to my list of places to explore.

Re: Traffic chaos on B6 between Achelia and Geroskipou. Motorway Closed

Me too. I was on the motorway from Anarita, and had to turn off at the Koloni exit and join the B-road from there. It took almost half an hour to get from the motorway exit onto the B-road. There were no police on b-road at the time (8.30-9), so traffic was flowing along that road making it hard for...

Re: Cypriot serial killer given seven life sentences

It seems as though because he pleaded guilty the judge could just pass sentence without a full court case. It's not clear how much of the evidence the police have been gathering for the last few months was actually presented in court. I would guess that if he pleaded not guilty and had a lawyer defe...

Re: Kouris Reservoir

Thanks Dominic I went to see the dam and church at the end of January and April this year, but haven't been able to get back to see how full it is now. I have seen it full though, back in 2013. If you're interested here are some photos from over the years: My 1st visit back in 2004: Kouris 2004 ab.j...

Re: Maronas Time Warp

Thanks Dominic, it's been interesting to see the comparison between then and now. I am fascinated by that bridge though - I'd love to know where it is. I took quite a few photos of Roudia recently, I had a look at them angle isn't right or there are too many trees to see far into the background. If ...

Jim, re your question about changing the doctor you are registered with. When I did my registration online and chose my doctor there, there was a note to say that you could change your doctor in 6 months time.

Re: Xeros River Ruins

I'm very envious about the fox and the owl! I did that drive 2 weeks ago, there was still a fair amount of water flowing down the river then, but I wondered how much longer it would last. I only went as far as Panagia tou Sinti though, which was lovely and peaceful, as usual. I didn't realise you co...

Re: Best cattery?

Another recommendation for Anita at Choletria Mill Cattery. I totally trust her with my cats, I know she gives them lot of fuss and cuddles and keeps a good eye on them. I had to leave one with her soon after an operation and even at her busiest period at Christmas she kept going to check on him, ma...

Re: How to pronounce !!

For what it's worth, I was at my doctor earlier, so I asked him. As Flossie already said, it's a soft G (Y), but he pointed out that the stress is on the EE sound at the end. He pronounced it like this: yeah*-sEE (so sort of rhyming with "air") He also told me what it stood for, but don't ask me to ...

Re: Hellenic/Bank of Cyprus query

If I remember right, when I used by BoC debit card to withdraw funds from another bank's ATM (Hellenic I think), I was charged €3. It was a while ago though.

It was definitely a bank that time, not a JCC or the private ones, where yes, I also get charged €3.
