Re: Not only clouds...

They're stunning photos of a cloudy sunrise Max, I enjoyed looking at them.

I just can't get out of bed early enough to see sunrise myself...

Re: DRIVING IN SANDALS

When a friend of a friend was stopped last summer, the policeman told her that it was illegal to drive here in any shoes that don't have back, so sandals with a strap round the heal are fine, but sandals with nothing to hold it in place at the back are not. She was also told that you are not allowed...

Re: I was waiting 7 years to photograph that...

After saying last week that I have seen less bee-eaters this September, I have now probably seen hundreds over the last 5 days. Quite a few on the wires over my garden too - though of course none drinking from the pool. And I still haven't managed to get a decent photo of one in flight. Hopefully on...

Re: I was waiting 7 years to photograph that...

Wow, Max, what a lovely sight for you. I've had bee-eaters on my wires every May and September (though much less this September), but I have never seen them dive down to the pool, or even get close to it. They usually swoop the other way, over the field in front of the house. I'd have loved to see t...

Re: Not many wasps around for bee-eaters....

I haven't seen any bee-eaters yet, I'm looking forward to that. I wonder if there are bee-eaters now in your area. They appear every morning and afternoon where I live, but stay only minutes as there are no insects to catch, but it looks like that they are already on the way leaving Cyprus for the ...

When you scoop out the floating insects, try to always empty the net in the same place. That way, the little lizards and skinks soon learn where their food delivery is! Then your dead insects are not wasted at all. 😀
I like that idea, thanks Kay!

Re: Not many wasps around for bee-eaters....

I haven't seen any bee-eaters yet, I'm looking forward to that. But I have plenty of wasps they can have. For a couple of weeks I had around 30-40 at time trying to drink out of my pool, so much so I couldn't use the ladder. When at home I kept going to check the pool so I could rescue the drowning ...

Re: Car air-conditioning service

Correction, would have been a map, but Tinypic closed down as of today and PL says the png image I have is too large to upload. Just don't have time to mess around re-sizing, sorry! Thanks HiC, and don't worry, I wouldn't expect you to waste time on playing around with sizing. Besides, Jim's link i...

Re: Car air-conditioning service

Thanks everyone! Two Cypriot guys on the G'pou Industrial Estate. Very highly recommend. They sort every a/c problem, even when others have failed. That's all they do, auto a/c. Am sure they will be shut for summer holidays at the moment, but you could try them: Stelios 99 498204. Their English is n...

Car air-conditioning service

Hi My car air conditioning is next to useless during the day, so I need to get it looked at. I found this 2018 post - https://www.paphoslife.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=5681&p=58961&hilit=car+air+conditioning#p58961 Does anyone have any recommendations or more recent comments to add to that? Idea...

That made me smile, Max, thanks for the story!

Are you on Facebook? If so you can try asking for advice on the Birds of Cyprus Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/176359182567527 But it's a closed group, so you'd need to join first.

Re: Full moon yesterday

Thanks for the photos Max. I watched it rise from Timi beach, with its light reflecting on the sea, and it was stunning. It was nice to see quite a few people stop and watch it and take photos. I took quite a few pics, over the next half hour, but sadly I only had my phone and underwater camera - I ...

Re: Passion fruit

Your post is quite a coincidence HIC. I was just wondering earlier this morning if passion fruit grew well in Cyprus and how easy it would be to grow. I've not long come back from a holiday where I was starting and ending my day with passion fruit - in the morning scooped over plain yoghurt for brea...

Re: Pedestal Fans

I find the noise of my upright fan quite distracting. Funny, I get so used to the sound of the fan in my bedroom at night, I miss it at the end of summer! I almost need it fall asleep. I keep the fan going as long as possible in October, moving it further across the room and pointing it upwards. I ...

Re: Do you know Cyprus? Villages (#21) difficult!

You can't drive direct to Prastio from the Extreme View cafe. You are better off following the signs to the monastery and then turning left once you have crossed the river. Then you have to follow tracks that take you a bit up the hill. You will eventually have to walk through a field to get there....
