I don't go that way, but there are people on this forum who do. And Brexiteers to boot. That could heighten your experience.
If you need help, send me a PM and I'll send you a name or two. Or maybe they'll contact you, knowing your interest in such things. ))

Well you sound very experienced Susana. Thank you for your advice.
I think we are getting a bit off topic, so time for cocoa!

You do, however, remind me of one true story....
I was travelling to Toronto by car with a friend. We were in Upstate New York somewhere - near Niagara Falls. Early morning, to beat the queues at the Border crossing. It was twilight....
Driving along through a small town - and ... you know the moment when you see something - and then look back at the road - and then - reality hits you, and you go "What the heck?" - and look again?
Well - there was a guy walking along the "sidewalk" with a stick stuck out of his.... you know where. Incredible. At about 6 am.
And he had jeans on... presumably a hole in the appropriate place - for him.

I 'll never forget it. Niagara Falls I barely recall, but this... !!! Amazing . ))

Let's keep the conversation about interest rates please.

If anybody thinks that the Brexit vote didn't badly affect sterling, they are living in cloud cuckoo land. Yes rates do fluctuate. They fluctuate for reasons. The reason in this instance was the Brexit vote.

Imagine a farmer with a field of corn. Each year he gets a crop, depending on the weather, insect level and what-have-you. One year, locusts destroy most of his crop and his yield is low. The next year, things are back to normal, and continue that way. Then somebody torches his field, and his yield is low again.

Just because his yield was low because of locusts, does not mean that torching his field had no effect on his yield. A statement like that is ridiculous, yet that is what people are now trying to claim here.

The Brexit vote knackered the exchange rate. That is a demonstrable fact. Leavers should at least own that.

Laugh as much as you like Lofus7....the 1.40 was the choice of the EU at that time to shore up their currency.
It was a quantitative easing programme.

I am not laughing about the exchange rate which unfortunately, let’s be honest, at the moment is rather depressing I think, and worse is yet to come if we believe the experts (or common sense) ...

We'll see how it goes but bringing the 1.40E is unhelpful.
1.25 as a comparison might be better.

Off topic but can someone remind me how to change £s to Euros on a UK keyboard please? :D

There is no key that changes £s to €s. There is a key that displays a £ sign. On my keyboard, that is SHIFT-3. There is also a key that displays the € sign. That is CTRL-ALT-4.

I think that is what you were looking for. :)

Further to Dominic's post, if you are looking to change pounds to euros and v.v. -
Just go to www.xe.com and choose your appropriate currency.

I am curious though, June. I thought you had left Cyprus and are now living in Cumbria??
What do you need exchange rates for there? It doesn't affect your pension anymore!

Perhaps they are preparing for a serious collapse of Sterling, and starting their own Cumbrian currency? Maybe Kendal Mint Rock. You know - those sugar sticks...
4 sticks to a euro. That's the future for Britain under Brexit.
You would have to be careful though if you said to somebody - " You know where you can stick your money".

You may want Dominic to check that out for you.
You responded to my post today in the "Brexit is like..." - jokes - thread.
Clearly the ignore thing isn't working for you.

A news article in the Guardian yesterday said that the money exchanges at Cardiff Airport was giving 0.90 Euro's to the pound which I can't confirm or deny but these figures usually quoted on the likes of Sky and the BBC are at the top end. Ordinary Joe Public get nothing like the figures shown in the papers or on TV so even the low exchange rates shown on the chart posted by HIC has no resemblance to the much lower rate paid to the ordinary person in the street.
There was another very interesting article in the Guardian about a mindset called "Denialism": well worth a read. ;-)

The Turkish Lira had steeper dive and in a shorter period - but that is a different story altogether of course...
