Winterscape - just don't look too closely at the temperatures quoted!

Got something to share that isn't strictly related to Cyprus? Post it here.

Winterscape - just don't look too closely at the temperatures quoted!

Well we've certainly had some very chilly temperatures these last few days but my, haven't they produced some spectacular colours!
Sunday evening temperatures, just after midnight:

But, no central heating on overnight and we're still under the summer duvet with a lightweight throw over the top. Looks like we're becoming acclimatised again ;-)

Yesterday lunchtime we took my camera for a wee trip to the ferry jetty to have a peep across the fells behind the coastal path and over to Morecambe Bay.

When we got up in the morning, my phone app told me it was -5 degrees Celsius but the "real feel" was -10. However, the saving grace was it was a very sunny day with hardly a breath of wind. We headed off to Blackpool afterwards for a mooch around the shops searching for some outdoor lights for the big fir tree in the front garden. It was a lovely day there, one of those when no breeze is a definite plus point and the added bonus - the shops were devoid of tourists :-)

This morning, not so much sun and feeling much, much colder for it. But we've managed to get the lights on the outside tree and tomorrow the weatherproof box with a 4 gang socket extension will arrive, courtesy of Amazon so we should be good to go by the evening.

Oh, and an amazing Christmas tree from the Grosvenor Shopping Centre in Chester from the weekend. Click through the photo, then click again to zoom in for more detail.

At one point, when I was out yesterday on my bike, it was so clear I could see the Lake District fells from North Wales. Have not been out today because of the danger of ice and I do not want to fall off again. As I said on another thread, very jealous of all of you in Cyprus.

We still have the summer duvet on and no overnight central heating. We have a hive thermostat and at present it is 18c in the hall and 20c in the lounge/dining room. The heating has been on since this morning and we will turn down the thermostat to 15c when we go to bed. Overnight, we will lose 2c inside if the outside temperature is -2c.

Our temperature is set to 19C in the daytime from 08:00hrs and at 22:00hrs it switches down to 10C and will come on automatically if the inside temperature drops below that setting. It hasn't done it yet!
When we go away over winter, we put the setting to holiday mode and keep it to 10C overall.

I'm usually the last one to bed at anywhere between 23:45 and 00:30hrs....
