
The altitude of the sun is nearly on their lowest position now, which I always check counting the windmills from left to right and the nighttime is already on the decline since yesterday.

I already recognized the last days, that it is already good daylight when the lights on my "Christmas tree" in the garden come on (on timer) when I come back with my dog, ca 5 pm.

I am not an expert for Winter Solstice. 21 December is indeed the shortest day in the northern hemisphere. After that, daylight hours increase by 4 minutes a day, as the Sun begins it's inexorable climb back up into higher altitudes each day...
