Point is, Lotus, that when you ask a question here on PL, you may get some helpful and possibly alternative and better responses to you your original query for you to consider and think about...

No need to throw your toys out of your pram when these ideas start flowing in to you, m8. Everyone is only trying to help you, after all...

for God's sake you lot get a life, personally i think it's rude if i ask a SIMPLE question then get answers for something totally different,i suppose if i asked where to get a tin of red paint people would say get blue instead,i am NEVER normally rude but people look at the question first,as said i have seen plenty worse on here

I agree you will have seen plenty worse on here. That's what the Politics section is for. :)

With regards to car covers, the suggestions for a car port were only made because car covers don't work in Cyprus for any length of time. They certainly weren't being rude. Had they told you to use a bus instead, then yes, I would get your point.

Now, let's just draw a line under this shall we? Enough has been said I think.

Just by way of an addendum to this thread. When I was long staying in Paphos in 2001, a neighbour asked me to keep an eye on his 4 door Toyota saloon car with a cover on, while he was back in UK.

This I did, but was horrified on what I saw when I lifted the cover. The day before he had sealed his car with a cover, he had gone to Begonia garden centre to buy a couple of cases of mushrooms. Placed these on the back seat, drove home, took them out, put his car cover on, then back to UK.

The inside of his car was full of mushrooms! Must have been very humid when he put the cover on. It later cost him CY£2,000 to have the entire interior trim replaced! Shade is good for a car in Cyprus, but a cover is a definate no no IMHO...

Based on neighbours experience, would suggest only using a close fitting cover as a last resort. The dust gets under them, then the breeze turns it into a giant piece of sandpaper and trashes the paintwork.

I managed to get a car cover from Paphos home market, its only going to be used for a month or so,as an ex paint sprayer i am well aware of any problems but due to the bad weather had no choice,i have known several people who have used car covers for years over here with no problems, its a no brainer either to have it exposed to sun etc or to have it covered, even some car ports can let sunlight creep in and cause damage,so in other words car covers though not ideal are better than nothing in Cyprus

It is strange here in Cyprus how the sun damages paintwork.... but only on some cars. We have had 3 different cars over the last 12 years, and non have suffered from paint damage, but they have been out in rain hail and sunshine. And yet I do frequently see paint damage on cars around the town.
I do wonder if it is the paintwork just on SOME makes of car..

Rats AND mice, Austin! My funny story goes back five years here in UK, when wifey and I were regularly buying bulk sacks of peanuts from a local DIY store, in order to feed the birds and squirrels in our front and rear gardens.

In October 2012, my faithful little Corsa (kept in my detached brick-built garage) was taken to my local Vauxhall main dealer for it's annual service and MOT. I soon got a telephone call from them, saying they had discovered something rather interesting when changing the air filter. Could they email me with photos taken, and use these on their website? Yes, I said...

Here is the old air filter, with a suspicious looking hole in it. After that was removed, here is what they found in the plenum chamber below...

Unbelievable! A mouse was collecting peanuts from our back garden, then squeezing through the ½" gap under my up and over garage door. Then clambering up the front end of my Corsa, into the air intake tube, to arrive at the paper air filter. Where it then tunneled through, to create it's own 5* luxury winter nest, with endless supplies of food on hand.

How amazing is that, eh? Next day, I was out in the garage with my Bosch 24v hammer drill installing full width ½" thick wooden bump strips behind the bottom of the garage door closing edge. No more mouse invasions ever since, thank goodness!

Moral of my story? No matter whether you use a car cover or a car port, your vehicle is vulnerable to rodent attack when parked outside!

Cheers- AL ;)
